The Christian Minister is a high office, as an ..
Ambassador for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (2 Cor. 5:20, Rev. 19:19)
Qualifications …
1. Must be a Saved Man
Romans 1:16 – must belong to Jesus Christ
2. Must Be a Surrendered Man
During Paul’s conversion, he saw a light and submitted to the Lord – “Who art thou Lord?” (Acts 9:5) — He recognized deity and in the vision and the voice. Paul’s surrender to Christ is evidenced in the statement “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
3. God will show a man his calling
- Personally and experientially
“God separated me .. to reveal His Son in me” – The Apostle Paul, Galatians 1:15,16
“Lord, what will thou have me to do?” (Acts 9:5) – surrendered to Christ’s will and calling.
Reminder: Christ is the Head of The Church.
Remarks of Paul to a Young Christian Minister …
1. Trust the Word (2 Timothy 3:16)
– “Every Word is God Breathed”
2. Preach the Word (2 Timothy 4:2)
3. Read, Exhort, & Teach, the Word
(1 Timothy 4:13) (Read, Explain, Apply)
And Peter states the importance of desiring, and feeding on the Word (1 Peter 2:2) — “… that they may grow thereby”
On Worship & Ministry …
- What is worship? The “Law of First Mention” finds the first appearance of the word worship in Genesis 22:5, where Abraham is obeying God, by putting Isaac on the altar. God did not want Isaac dead, but Abraham’s heart surrendered. Therefore, Worship is Obedience to God without mental reservation.
- A Minister is one who serves, or is made “a slave”, as Jesus states in Matthew 20:26-28: “Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Conclusion
“Let Brotherly Love Continue” Hebrews 13:1
1 John 2 17 tells us to do the will of God. This will overcome the problem of worldliness (verse 16) and it will give us a sense of investment (verse 17b). That means we must start by doing what we know to be the will of God for all believers. Check the following list:
1. It is the will of God that we dedicate our lives. Romans 12:1-2
2. It is the will of God that people be saved. 2 Peter 3:9
Are you involved in reaching people for Christ?
3. It is the will of God that we be thankful & spiritually self-sustaining. 1 Thess. 5:18
4. It is the will of God that we live the Christian Life. I Thessalonians 4:3
We have an illustration here. If we are living the Christian life, we don ‘t have to do what comes naturally but we can overcome our area of weakness.
5. It is the will of God that we submit to authority. 1 Peter 2:15
“Roast Pastor” is not an acceptable Sunday meal and is a violation of both I Thess. 5:12-13 and Hebrews 13.7-8.”
6. It is the will of God that we handle difficulty. 1 Peter 2:21
7. It is the will of God that we believe. 1 John 3:23
8. It is the will of God that we grow (spiritually). 1 Timothy 2:3-4
9. It is the will of God that we recognize that success is not necessarily proof that you are doing the will of God. 1 Peter 4:19
It is possible to be in the midst of difficult times and be doing the will of God.
10. It is the will of God that we not follow our old Adamic nature, but rather the Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 4:2
Every day, we have the choice of letting the Holy Spirit run us or our old Adamic nature. Romans 6:13 and Rornans 8:13 teach this basic choice.
